How the Equilibrium Senior Activities Program Promotes Cognitive Health

Memory care at Solterra is resident-centered, putting the needs of your loved one first.

Memory care at Solterra is resident-centered, putting the needs of your loved one first. To do this even better, we have our Equilibrium senior activities program, which is our exclusive, science-based activity engagement philosophy of treating dementia diseases. It’s a proactive approach by our care team in which they create positive health and wellness outcomes for your loved one. All of this helps promote cognitive health. How does it do this?

Looking at the Entire Picture

The Equilibrium senior activities approach takes both the mind and body of the patient into consideration because both affect cognitive health. Because of this, we use a combination of mindfulness, art, music, and cognitive therapies. This activity helps to keep the spirits of your loved one high, keep their body active, and of course, keep their mind engaged.

Results Are Tracked in Real-Time

There’s no lag when it comes to results, which truly makes a difference. Having the results in real-time allows staff to quickly and effectively determine the best course of action for your loved one and which therapies will be most beneficial. These results can also be immediately shared with families and with our residents, so everyone can be on the same page to determine the correct level of care.

It Takes Emotions into Account

Emotions are an important part of cognitive health, and at Solterra, we know they should not be overlooked. They can greatly affect the health and functioning of the brain, either positively or negatively. The Equilibrium senior activities program not only stimulates the resident, but it also measures how each person is feeling on a daily basis. This assessment allows for immediate adjustments to be made in therapy.

The Positive Outcomes Show the Effectiveness

We have measured some of the positive outcomes of the Equilibrium senior activities program on cognitive health, and the results do show greater sensory awareness and motor function, a reduced need for pharmaceutical interventions, improved memory, and enhanced communication skills—measured by the ability to communicate and by improved language. In addition, we also see a decrease in anxiety, depression, restlessness, and wandering.

Our Equilibrium Activities Program Directors Are Highly Trained

All of our Equilibrium activities program directors are trained, experienced, and compassionate. They put residents first. They complete special training on the Equilibrium program so they can fully understand and meet the needs of every resident.

All of our memory care units use the Equilibrium approach, meaning that regardless of the location you choose, as long as you’re placing your loved one in memory care at a Solterra community, they’ll receive this modern and effective therapy.

We understand how frightening it can be for families when a loved one is experiencing a cognitive decline such as Alzheimer’s disease or other types of dementia. That’s why we implement the Equilibrium senior activities program to promote cognitive health and to slow cognitive decline. If you’re interested in learning more, please give us a call.
