What Type of Financial Assistance Is Available for Assisted Living?

What Type of Financial Assistance Is Available for Assisted Living
The choice to move to assisted living might be an easy one for you – having someone help you with daily tasks sounds useful and would take a burden off your family or your caretaker. However, there could be sticker shock attached to your monthly bill in an assisted living community. If you’re on a fixed income, the thought of paying for that extra help could be overwhelming.
Fortunately, financial assistance is available! Here are three different types of financial assistance available for assisted living in Arizona:

1. Veteran’s Benefits

If you or your spouse served in the armed forces, we want to serve you as well! Veterans or their surviving spouses may qualify for special financial assistance, if they don’t have the financial resources already. The Department of Veterans Affairs, Aid and Attendance Pension benefit can be helpful here. If the veteran in your life could use some help bathing, eating, dressing, preparing meals, and medication management, this could be a helpful boost – and it should be noted that eligible applicants don’t need to require help with all of these tasks.

There are numerous free resources online, but be wary of scams. For further details, check out our helpful links here for more information or get in touch with us.

2. Long-Term Care Insurance

Having a long-term care policy can help ensure you have funds for an assisted living community should you need it. Most existing long-term care policies sold today cover assisted living expenses, but if you haven’t bought one of these policies yet, it would be an excellent idea to make sure you’re covered with assisted living.

If you don’t have a current policy and are interested in purchasing one, we would love to help offer additional assistance exploring this solution. You may contact the American Association of Long-Term Care Insurance on their website or call them at 1-818-597-3227.

3. Arizona’s Medicaid Program

In Arizona, this program is called the Arizona Health Cost Containment System and the Arizona Long-Term Care System. These programs provide long term care insurance for services, whether you’re interested in living in an institution, home, or community-based setting. You may know that Medicaid is a medical assistance program which the state and federal government fund so that you can pay for long term care (among other things). The requirements they have include being over 65, being disabled, or being blind. Long-term Medicaid services may have different eligibility guidelines, though, compared to other types of benefits, so make sure you ask a lot of questions!
