If you are considering moving into an assisted living community in Arizona and you haven’t already heard of ALTCS, we encourage you to look into it! ALTCS is the Arizona Long-Term Care System insurance, and is meant for Arizona residents who are 65 years of age or older and that medically need a certain level of care. ALTCS provides long-term care funding to those Arizona residents who are both medically and financially eligible, leaving residents themselves to pay little or no cost for their care. However, you must qualify to receive this benefit. You can do so by filling out an ALTCS application.

The ALTCS application will have lots of personal questions, including medical and financial, that will allow them to determine if you are eligible. Filling out the ALTCS application can be overwhelming, but there are places you can go to for help completing it:

A Local ALTCS Officer

There are seven different ALTCS Medicaid office locations that you can visit if you need help with your application. These locations include Casa Grande, Chinle, Flagstaff, Kingman, Phoenix, Prescott Valley, Tucson, and Yuma.

If it’s not convenient or easy for you to physically go to any of these locations, there is a main phone number you can call (888-621-6880) with any questions you may have regarding the application. More information about these locations can be found on the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System website.

Senior Planning

Senior Planning was created with the mission to make sure every Arizona senior gets the care they need. They are based in Phoenix but serve the entire state. They’re different from the governmental ALTCS Medicaid offices mentioned above, but they are a free service that Arizona residents can take advantage of.

Senior Planning has Eldercare Experts as part of their organization that can help you with your ALTCS application and also can find providers that accept ALTCS.

Ask A Family Member

It’s understandable if you trust a family member to help you with your ALTCS application rather than a stranger. While we do encourage you to utilize someone who is well versed in ALTCS like the three options above, if you need assistance in filling out your application, you can turn to a family member. Another individual is able to act on your behalf if you need help with the application process.
